Frequently Asked Questions

Please find a list of Frequently Asked Questions below – read for more information on our tolerances, materials, and more.

What thicknesses and tolerances can be attained?

A general rule of thumb, a tolerance of +/- 15% of the metal thickness is usually acceptable. Micro Etch Tech. can produce parts in any metal temper in thickness from foil to .062″.

What metals do we etch?

Alfenol, Beryllium Copper, Brass, Cold Rolled Steel, Copper, Hardened Tool Steel, HY MU 80 and other magnetic materials, Inconel, Inconel X, Lead, Moly Permalloy, Nickel, Nickel Silver, Phosphor Bronze, Silicon Steel, stainless steel, Tin

We don’t etch:
Aluminum, Glass, Gold, Germanium, Magnesium, Molybdenum, Silicon, Titanium, Zinc

What is our turnaround time?

Typically, our average turnaround time is 2 weeks. If we have metal in stock and artwork is ready, turnaround time can be as quick as a week. Some projects can be done in as little as 24 hours. We can also do monthly releases.

What design guidelines should I follow?

We have a full set of design guidelines here.

What design formats do we accept?

We accept designs in the following formats:

  • AutoCAD – DWG or DXF (Any release)
  • IGS/IGES
  • Fully dimensioned PDF
  • AI – Adobe Illustrator for PC (can’t open Mac)
  • CDR – Corel DRAW
  • EPS (Need outline of parts and text, avoid lines/arcs with thickness).

We can convert some graphic files into Autocad. These files must be high resolution and they are mostly used for logos.

  • JPG
  • Bitmaps
  • GIF
  • TIF
  • PNG

Does the etching process affect the metal?

No. Because no mechanical forces are applied to the metal, the photochemical machining does not affect the hardness, grain structure, or ductility of the metals.

Do we serve international customers?

Yes we do. By receiving orders and design documents via email and fax we can work with international customers quickly and effectively.
